In these essays, written not long after his elopement with Frieda von Richtofen in 1912, D.H. Lawrence recorded much of what he saw and felt as he traveled with her from Bavaria to Gargano.

TWILIGHT IN ITALY is not autobiographical, nor can it be labeled as travel sketches. Most of the pieces are vivid, sensitive, masterful, often rhapsodic impressions of the Italian countryside and the Italian temper.
